You Can Still Break Into The Career You Want If You Are Self-Taught

Trust me, with or without formal education SUCCESS is assured. I am a good Graphic Designer today, but I did not major in ‘Design and Illustration’ during my tertiary education. I read Publishing Studies and majored in Administration.

I had to pick mentors and study a lot on my own. Did a lot of experiments and never stopped learning. Even till date I sleep less than 6 hours every day just to be on my toes. I do spoken word, poetry and sometimes writing – short literatures. It has never been easy but formal education alone doesn’t have all the answers. I got my first website gig when i knew just little about web designing but today we are still keeping the ball rolling with little involvement of formal education.

Marketing skills aside speaking and writing good English should be more practical and that can’t be fully taught in the classroom. I strongly believe in formal education but learn it faster yourself, especially when you have been given the basics through formal education.
